The school is supported by the Social Worker in Schools programme which means we are able to access support for families who may need help around food parcels, benefits, attendance, housing etc. The service also run a range of programmes to benefit our students – these can include counselling, horse therapy, gymnastics and kapa haka tutoring.
Referrals to the service are normally made by the school but can also be made by the family themselves. Our social worker Dori Phillips is at school every Tuesday and can be contacted through the school at anytime.
Our school nurse comes in to school once or twice a week. The students can self refer or the teachers will indicate if their is an illness or injury that needs checking.
The nurse in schools service is particularly interested in monitoring students through the winter months to ensure flu and rheumatic fever are kept on top of. They will also check school sores, hearing and any other concerns the student has.
