SWiS
The school is supported by the Social Worker in Schools programme which means we are able to access support for families who may need help around food parcels, benefits, attendance, housing etc. The service also run a range of programmes to benefit our students – these can include counselling, horse therapy, gymnastics and kapa haka tutoring.
Referrals to the service are normally made by the school but can also be made by the family themselves.
Family Works Northern are contracted to run the SWiS service. We have an allocated social worker that it onsite every Thursday.
Nurse
Our school nurse comes in to school once a week. The students can self refer or the teachers will indicate if there is an illness or injury that needs checking. Parents can also call the school to ask the nurse to check their child.
The nurse in schools service is particularly interested in monitoring students through the winter months to ensure flu, strep throat and rheumatic fever are kept on top of. They will also check school sores, hearing and any other concerns the student has.
